No love lost as Shores defeats La Jolla 9-6 in Grommet League play.

The San Diego Shores 14U girls water polo team faced league rival La Jolla tonight at Coronado in a preview of the Speedo Cup opener. Shores is slotted to play La Jolla, the #2 qualifier from the Pacific Southwest Zone on Saturday, November 14th in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Shores jumped out to an early lead and remained in control of the game throughout with outstanding offensive play on the perimeter by Jill Bushman, Hannah Carrillo, and Kelsey Blacker.

Julia Boland, Natalie Chun, and Ariana Vazquez made key stops defensively and eventually forced the La Jolla team to resort to long shots from the perimeter. In addition to keeping La Jolla scoring threats in check, they made excellent transition passes to create many fast break scoring opportunities.

The La Jolla team, inspired by the overwhelming cheers from their fans, were able to keep it close until late in the 4th quarter when Shores put the finishing touches on an important win leading up to Speedo Cup.
