Shores is denied revenge in tough battle against Socal, loses 5-4 in a thriller.

The San Diego Shores 14U girls had a chance for revenge against rival Socal. Up early, and in control, Shores looked like a different team than the one that was blown out last week against the same opponent.

After taking a 3-1 lead at the half, Shores appeared well in control of Socal on the defensive end of the pool and were making the most of open opportunities on offense. Changing sides did not benefit the Shores team at all. The Socal team pressed hard in the second half and the Shores offense could not get on track, managing only 1 goal. The lack of possession and minimized scoring chances created by the pressure, allowed Socal to outscore Shores 4-1 in the second half and take the victory 5-4.

The Shores girls answered a lot of questions for coaches, parents and fans today as they continue to prepare for the Speedo Cup where they will undoubtedly have another chance for redemption against Socal.

While C.WithersMedia does not believe in moral victories, we do see the importance of gaining confidence and proving to yourself that you can compete against a formidable opponent.

San Diego Shores 14U Girls to play exhibition match.

The Shores girls will be competing Sunday at 3:40 P.M. at the U.S. Olympic Water Polo facility in Los Alamitos, CA. They will be looking for redemption against the same Socal team that defeated them by 17 goals eight days ago in the Cousineau Cup. This game will be a good gauge of the improvements made over the past week and should be much more contested, as the Shores girls are now less than three weeks away from their trip to Ann Arbor, MI for the Speedo Cup.

The tournament is the Speedo Top 40 and will feature some of the premiere adult players in the country. Shores is slated to play their exhibition between the Bronze medal game and the Gold Medal game so this will also be a chance for them to showcase their talent with a large number of spectators watching.

Go Shores.

USS Ronald Reagan returns home from 5 month deployment.

After a 5 month tour to sea which included support missions in the Horn of Africa, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, and throughout the Indian Ocean, the men and women who serve our country on Strike Group 7 have returned to San Diego.

It seems somewhat routine to us here in San Diego, with ships constantly coming and going in todays high op tempo for deployment, but the wonderful welcome of our heroes today speaks volumes for the appreciation we have for them and the hard jobs they carry out.

To the men and women of the Ronald Reagan and Strike Group 7. Thank you and welcome home.

Shores outmuscled by Extreme, finishes in 6th place.

In a tightly contested match against Extreme Water Polo, the San Diego Shores girls were defeated 6-4 to close out their weekend at the Evan Cousineau Cup tournament in Santa Ana with a 6th place finish.

Trailing 4-2 at the half and struggling to get the ball inside the 5 meter mark, head coach Ian Davidson made a bold decision to bring in back up goalie Madison Kafka-Asper, and move starting goalie Meghan Engh into the field of play adding some physical strength to the lineup. This proved beneficial as Engh scored a goal and helped the team hold offensive space in the pool in the second half. Kafka-Asper only allowed two goals in the second half with a solid defense in front of her, but the Shores girls were unable to find the back of the cage on offense and could not net the needed goals to win the game.

San Diego Shores finished the tournament 1-3 with losses to the teams that eventually finished 2nd,4th and 5th. Their only win in the tournament came against the 3rd place finishers.

Shores falls to Newport 9-4 and will play Sunday for 5th place.

The San Diego Shores girls could not regain any of the momentum lost in their previous game. Shores had 2 goals erased from the board early and this was all the momentum a highly skilled Newport team needed to drive the nail into the proverbial coffin and put Shores into the 5th/6th place game, while securing their own spot in the Bronze medal game on Sunday.
